29 Palms  defeats  Notre Dame  50 -8

Layton Matthews scored three touchdowns on the evening, along with two from Anthony Banks, as the cats rolled to an easy 50 - 8 win.   Adding to his county leading receiving totals, Matthews scored on two pass plays from Junior quarterback Michael Usher.   Usher was 6 of 8 passing for 153 yards and four touchdowns on the night.  Anthony Banks caught the first td pass for 10 yards, followed by  a 11 yard strike to Gary Wilder.   Matthews finished off the ariel show by taking two quick tosses the distance, the first one 32 yards, followed by  a nifty 67 yard play in the second quarter.  The Cats also chewed up big chucks of yardage on the ground, pounding in three scores as well.  The first rushing touchdown was a 10 yard run by Dynamite Matthews with just 1:30 off the game clock.  A Safety followed on the ensuing series of plays for the Titans, quickly making it 9 - 0 Cats.  Anthony Banks scored on a 43 yard dash behind great offensive blocking from  Jacob Lee, J.J. Tryon, Justin Weeks, Ivan Davis, and J.P. Stratton.  The cats only score of the second half came on a 14 yard run by Senior Charles Jones.  Jones celebrated his first varsity football score of his career.   Jones also picked off the Titans Qb in the 3rd quarter of the game.   The Cats defensive secondary continued their stellar play, limiting the Titans to zero yardage on 7 pass attempts.   Notre Dame found little running room thought out the evening.  The tough Wildcat defense allowed only 55 yards in the first half and 3 in the third quarter.  David Nguyen, Joe Villegas, Daniel Leopoldo, and Antonio Oquendo led the team in tackles.

Coaches Comments:  We came out and played a very solid game tonight.  We eliminated turnovers, and executed our offense extremely well.   The kids bounced back from a tough loss last week.  They have a lot of character.   We look forward to a good match up on the hill against Big Bear.

Wildcat of the Week:   David Nguyen

David is a Senior Defensive end and fullback.  David responded with a big effort on both sides of the ball against Notre Dame on Friday.  David had some very key blocks at the full back position to spring our runners, and played very well at defensive end.  David is a 2 year varsity starter.  David is an honor student with a tremendous work ethic in the classroom and on the field.

Wildcat of the WeeK  -    Beaumont Game

Senior Defensive Tackle Brandon Johnson.

Brandon led the team in tackles with 9 against the Beaumont Cougars.  He played a great game at nose tackle, taking on numerous double team blocks.   Brandon has anchored our defense line all season, and is a big reason for our success.  Brandon has a great attitude.   He is always positive and works extremely hard in the weight room, classroom, and on the field.
