WILDCATS HEAD TO CIF PLAYOFFS
For the sixth time in eight seasons, the Wildcat Varsity Football Team will venture
into CIF post season play. The Wildcats secured their playoff berth in part to
a quick 3 - 1 league start. The Cats lost their final three league games of the
season, - two in the final minutes. Even so, the Cats still managed to gain the
4th place spot and an automatic entry from the DeAnza League. The Wildcats will
take on Mary Star at Daniel's Field in San Pedro on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
Pre-sale tickets are on sale at Twentynine Palms High School.
The Wildcats were defeated by the San Jacinto Tigers 20 - 0 last Friday night
at San Jacinto. The Cats will look to overcome several key injuries this week
against the #1 team from the Camino Real League - Mary Star. Coach Martinez stated, "We've
lost our starting middle linebacker and starting tailback the past two games,
along with several other nagging injuries to key players. This injury situation
has made it very difficult for us the last two week, but we seem to have gotten
back on track in practice this week, and look forward to an outstanding effort
in Friday night's game." We are excited about competing this week, everyone
in the bracket now has a clean slate to start from.
The Wildcats have met Mary Star twice before in the CIF Playoffs. In 1997, the
Cats lost a heartbreaker, 19 - 15 in the final moments of the game at Daniels
Field. The following season, the Cats turned the tables on the Stars with a commanding
40 - 14 victory at home.
Good Luck to our Wildcats!
