Wildcats Roll to Victory 45-17!
Wildcats finish De Anza league Play with 3 straight wins!
The Wildcats exploded for 42 first half points Friday night to outdistance
the Great Oak Wolf Pack for a successful Homecoming victory at Tom Nicoll stadium. The
emotionally charged Wildcats scored on six of their first eight possessions
of the game, cruising to an easy win over the favored Wolf pack. The
Wildcats would take the opening kickoff and march 43 yards down to
the Great Oak 20 yard line before being turned away on a interception in
the end zone. This would prove to be the last defensive stop of the first
quarter for the Wolf Pack. The Wildcats defense forced a quick punt and
Montreal Harris broke several open field tackles and raced 56 yards down to
the 10 yard line of Great Oak. It only took two plays for the Wildcats
to punch it in as Senior Tailback Ron Hampton ran it over for the first score. The
point after was blocked and the Cats led 6-0. The Wildcat defense would
take the game over from this point on, as Junior Linebacker Jason Luke would
break through the Wolf Pack line on the second play from scrimmage and sack
Qb Darryl Mosely. The ball came lose on the big hit by Luke and was picked
up by Junior lineman Floyd Pulu at the Great Oak 7. Two plays later Wildcat
Qb Nico Matthews connected on a 7 yard pass to widout Montreal Harris for the
Cats second score in a minute. Things would continue to go
downhill for the Wolf Pack as the Wildcat defense continued to put tremendous
pressure on the pass oriented offense of Great Oak. Floyd Pulu broke
through the line on the second play of the series and deflected a pass, which
was intercepted by Wildcat Sophomore Matt Kozel at the 45 yard line. Kozel
would race nearly 40 yards on the interception return, giving the Cats another
easy score at the 5 yard line. Nico Matthews ran a bootleg option run
around the right end for the third score of the quarter. A failed
two point conversion pass was just caught an inch out of the end zone and
the Cats led 18-0. Senior Defensive end Doc Edick would be the next Wildcat
to make some noise, as he sacked the Wolf Pack Qb on the 1 yard line following
the kickoff. An errant snap out of the end zone would add two more points
to the Wildcats first quarter blitz, and the score read 20-0 with
3:37 still to play in the first quarter. After the free kick the Wildcats
took over at the at their own forty yard line and quickly drove 60 yards to
pay dirt. The key play was a fourth down and 14 yard double pass play
from Matthews to Edick to Harris for the 36 yard scoring strike. Nicco
Matthews connected on a two point pass play to Drew Martinez who made a diving
shoelace catch to make the score 28-0. The Wildcats held the Wolf pack
out of the end zone early in the second quarter, but a punt downed at the 2
yard line would seem to have the cats in a dangerous hole. On third
and long, the Wildcats were able to break out of Wolf Pack territory
as Matthews scrambled and hit Senior fullback Kyle Candalaria on
a nifty swing pass. Candalaria broke several tackles and raced down the
sideline to the 40 yard line. The Cats would finish off the 98 yard drive
4 plays later as Matthews would hit Ron Hampton streaking down the sideline
for another big pass play and a 35-0 lead. The Wolf Pack would
finally get on the board with only 3:12 left in the second quarter. Great
Oak marched 65 yards on 6 plays mostly on the ground after abandoning
their run and shoot offense. The Wildcats would return the favor
to end the 1st half as they would also march 65 yards in 6 plays as well. Two
big runs by Hampton and Arsenio Jones would lead to a dazzling 25 yard Scramble
by Matthews down to the Great Oak 10. Arsenio Jones carried 3 defenders
to the one yard line. With 36 seconds left in the half, Matthews would
finish off the drive on a one yard sneak and the 42-7 lead. Senior Free
Safety Keenan O'conner intercepted the final pass of the half
at the Wildcat 25 yard line. The Wolf pack would make some
noise early in the fourth on a quick td, but the two teams would battle the
final quarter out with only two field goals to show for the period.
